60 seconds with Angeline Francis Khoo

Our founder, Angeline Francis Khoo, talks about her story and why she founded Rosie On Fire

What inspires you?

It’s taken a long time to get to a place of loving what I do; I don’t take for granted being excited to go to work! Having the opportunity to impact people while doing what I love excites me every day. Business is such a powerful vehicle to impact people, from simple things such as creating a safe working environment where people feel valued, to giving purpose and meaning to those who struggle to find it. Knowing we make a positive difference, whether small or big, inspires me to keep doing better. There’s so much more to do!

Who inspires you?

The people I work with. When you see your team catch your vision and run with it, their enthusiasm and drive is infectious. This shared identity bonds us. The other person who really inspires me is my brother, Alex. He’s autistic and now works at Rosie On Fire. Seeing the 100 per cent effort he gives to everything he does and his pride at contributing in a meaningful way to the workforce always helps me keep things in perspective.

What’s the one thing you learned growing up in a business environment that you practice at Rosie On Fire?

The well-being and happiness of your staff is the key to unlocking a company's growth potential. Prioritising your workforce is not only the right thing to do, but is the way to commercial viability. You can be the most brilliant person in the world, but you still need people. Everything is a team effort. Ultimately, most people just want to feel seen and cared for. People have intrinsic value and as a boss, it’s important to lead all initiatives from that starting point.

Why did you want to start your own fashion label?

I saw a space in the market to create an impact-driven brand that was also high-quality luxury and fun! There are so many things in life that are challenging - fashion isn’t one of them. Anywhere we can inject some fun, we do. So when the opportunity came to create an impactful brand that can make women feel confident, sexy and happy, it was a no brainer.

What’s next for Rosie On Fire?

We’re excited for 2020 as we have big growth plans for the business! It will be a pivotal year for us as we’re launching our first offline retail space very soon, as well as expanding into the beauty business with a high-end branded beauty bar opening in Kuala Lumpur.
